Youth participation

From May 28 to 29, 2025, the Coalition jeunes+ took part in the summer school of the Chaire-Réseau de la Jeunesse and the École nationale d'administration publique (ENAP) to strengthen young people’s role in public decision-making. The Coalition jeunes+ presented the PIJ research and the findings from the 2024 Forum, including the definition of youth homelessness, prevention strategies, and rights-based approaches, all grounded in the lived experience of youth partners.

At the heart of the event, two members of the Youth+ Committee led highly interactive workshops: Mélodie facilitated a workshop on “tools for advocacy” designed to equip young people to support their engagement, while Yami led a session focused on rights and remedies to address discrimination and precarity.

Several video clips created by young people were also screened. In them, they share their vision of civic participation and issue a direct call to elected officials, reminding them that young people must be heard and involved in decisions that affect them.

We thank the CRJ and ENAP for creating these spaces for dialogue. It is by valuing young people’s experiential knowledge that we can co-build sustainable solutions to youth homelessness.

Why is youth participation important?

What advice would you give to people who do research with young people?

What issues and rights motivate you to get involved?

If you had a message to give to a politician, what would you say?
